Tour of Elvis Presley Graceland

Growing up I kind of knew who Elvis Presley was as I would hear my Mom listening to his records. In high school I learned way more about Elvis when I dated a guy who was a huge Elvis fan. He had always wanted to head to Memphis for a tour of Graceland. However, it was not my thing back in those days.

Learning more about Elvis in my teens didn’t really give me a full picture of who Elvis Presley was, until I traveled to Graceland and saw for myself. So far I have taken the tour 2 times and looking forward to another tour of Elvis Presley Graceland soon.

Who is Elvis Presley

Born January 8, 1935 in East Tupelo, Mississippi was the king of rock n roll! Elvis Aaron Presley, born to Gladys and Vernon Presley came into this world as a twin but due to his twin brother being stillborn, Elvis became an only child.

At the age of 13 Elvis’s family moved from Mississippi to Memphis, Tennessee where Elvis finished school, worked odd jobs and began singing locally. From there, Elvis’s life was a whirlwind of movies, gold records, concerts and more.

There is so much to learn about Elvis, so you can learn more by check out his bio on IMDb. I won’t get into all his accomplishments, quirks, life stories and such. I will show you his unique home, Graceland in Memphis Tennessee.

Elvis Presley passed away August 16, 1977 and he left so much unsaid and undone!!  RIP Elvis Presley.

 

Tour of Elvis Presley Graceland – Outside

Pulling up to Graceland in the shuttle, I actually cried. I just couldn’t believe I was at Elvis Presley’s house. To see a home, left as it was when he was alive was chilling to me. I get goosebumps every time I look at my pictures.

Even though I did a bit of research before going, the house was not what I expected inside or outside. Here is me in front of the main entrance. Very 70’s classy look on the outside. Even white lions guard both sides of the steps.

After you tour thru the house, you end up in Elvis’s backyard, which is beautiful. Horses roaming around, green grass, and you can almost feel Elvis right there enjoying life from back when him and Priscilla were together.

 

Entering Graceland

I had totally pictured Elvis’s house differently so when first walking in, I was at a loss for words. I had to keep telling myself, he was eccentric and he has been gone since the mid 70’s and things in his home are as they were that day he left us.

The patterns, furniture, decorations, layout, and more were all just so 70’s, and being that it’s now 40 years later and it all looks the same is really a freaky sight to see.

Walking from the living room into the dining room, kitchen, jungle room, bedroom and more. WOW… so neat to see all of Graceland left in it’s untouched state. The upstairs is the only area that has no access.

Priscilla and Lisa Marie still come and stay at Graceland and when they do they use the upstairs.

Standing in the doorway you see the stairway leading upstairs, that is roped off. Turning to your right, you see this beautiful living room/sitting room. Check out that piano! I can just hear Elvis playing and singing to guests!

Standing in the doorway looking upstairs, then take a left and you will step into Elvis’s dining room. Can you picture all the meals that were eaten at this table by family and friends of Elvis Presley?!

The kitchen at Graceland is seriously retro. I loved it! Made me want to be standing there baking with Elvis’s Mom and Grandma.

Check out this purple bedroom. Elvis’s bedroom is upstairs where nobody is allowed, but this was his Grandmas bedroom. Elvis’s Grandma, Minnie Mae (he called her Dodger) passed May 8th 1980.

The Jungle Room

This room needed it’s own heading, and it’s own post! But, because I didn’t get a lot of great pictures due to lighting I will just show you what I got. This was Elvis’s creation and is sure a one of a kind room!

This is a waterfall on a wall that is so unique. Elvis loved Hawaii and this Jungle room was his creation because of his love of Hawaii. Opposite the waterfall wall, is the back steps to the upstairs. The green stairs.

Downstairs Tour at Graceland

The house has some very crazy decor and colors and carpet everywhere. It’s so strange because you just don’t see homes like Elvis’s anymore. I’d give anything to call his home mine. Just check out this awesome basement!

Just check out this awesome bar, all decorated in yellow and filled with TV’s everywhere, a comfy couch, all the spirits you could ever want and even a mirrored ceiling.

Having a game room with a pool table and cloth covered walls is a must in every house, right? Well it was in Elvis’s house and I have to say it sure is a one of a kind.

Meditation Garden at Graceland

Close to the end of the tour you find yourself standing at the grave of Elvis Presley. This is a very sad place for many. The bodies of Elvis, Gladys, Vernon and Minnie Mae.

Graceland opens it’s gates every morning to let visitors walk up to visit the Meditation Garden at Graceland for free.

There is so much more than just a house, sitting here on this beautiful land. I wanted to share Elvis’s house with you, and will share his outbuildings, museum, and hotel with you soon.

If you ever get to Memphis, Tennessee I highly suggest you take in a tour of Graceland. Fan of Elvis Presley or not, it is really a must see for everyone, and all ages. The life and death of Elvis will never be forgotten.

So much to see and do, and these activities are a must.
