Stop stressing for weeks before you leave in your RV on vacation. If you are worried that you won’t be able to get the sleep you need, stop. Today I will share with you some tried and true tips. Tips for a great night sleep in an RV. I know these work, because my husband and I use them. We are winter RV’ers and know how important sleep is. One just can’t enjoy all the sight seeing and travel when you are tired. A good night sleep is important for many reasons. Read on for my tips.
Choosing a Good Mattress
I will start with the most important tip of all, a quality mattress. Most RV’s come with a mattress that is less than comfortable. People spend money on a quality mattress for their home, right? Well an RV is your home away from home and you need to make it comfortable. Finding a mattress that you like is the first tip for a great night sleep in an RV.
There are many different mattresses on the market today that will work for an RV. My top pick is the ghostbed rv mattress. Not all mattresses on the market work for an RV. Some RV’s have odd sized mattresses or space for a mattress. Make sure you measure your space correctly and get a mattress that is comfortable, like one you have at home.
Comfortable Bedding
Sheets, blankets and pillows really make an RV bed great! When we got our RV the first thing I did was outfit it with similar sheets, pillows and blankets as I have in our bedroom at home. A total RV bedroom makeover.
If you have the same size bed in your home as your RV you can use the same stuff. Instead of buying new or more, just take what you have at home. That way you will have your favorite sheets, pillows and blankets.
Make Your Bedroom Dark
Most people I know can’t sleep if their is light shining in their bedrooms. However, when you travel you can’t control the outside lighting situation so you have to fix it from the inside. Using blackout curtains or darkening blinds works great. I did an RV window makeover and went with blackout curtains throughout and we love them. The whole RV is super dark at night no matter where we park.
When we RV and are on the road heading to the RV park, we stay in a lot of wayside rests. If you have ever been in a wayside rest or a truck stop at night you know how bright they can be. It’s good they are well lit up because it keeps you safer. However, the light can also keep you awake if you sleep best in total darkness.
Block Out Noise
Noise can really be an issue for many when they travel. Ones home is usually quiet at night. Even if not totally quiet, the sounds are ones a person is used to. A faucet dripping, or your spouse snoring. Maybe the sound of vehicles on the street you live. For us we are used to the sound of crickets and frogs in the summer or the heater in our bedroom in the winter. All soothing sounds to us.
What you might not like when you travel is other sounds. Big rigs driving by, dogs barking, loud music from passers by, airplanes flying over, etc. There are many sounds one might not think of, that can keep you awake. A great tip, wear earplugs. My hubby never goes to bed without them when we travel. Myself, I use CBD oil to drift off to sleep as noises don’t really bother me. But for most people, grabbing some soft earplugs will help you get a great night sleep in an RV.
Stick to a Routine
With jobs and kids and pets and all life throws at a person, a nightly routine becomes important. Going to bed the same time every night, or doing certain things before bed. Maybe you read a book, or have a cup of tea before bed. Whatever you do at home for a nightly routine, try to do it when traveling. While it might not always be easy, it can help you get a great night sleep in an RV.
Try stopping for the night a couple hours before you normally go to bed. Let yourself unwind from the drive, and just chill before climbing into bed for the night. Take a walk or do some stretches before bed.
It’s a good idea to try and get up the same time every day as well. Waking, doing the normal morning routine you would at home. Coffee, breakfast, workout, and then back on the road.
