I’ve always loved destinations where you can spend the morning hiking in a national park, the afternoon riding roller coasters, and the evening enjoying incredible food with mountain views. Pigeon Forge checks every one of those boxes.

Spend the Day at Dollywood

No trip to Pigeon Forge feels complete without visiting Dollywood.

Even if you’re not a huge thrill ride person, the park has award-winning entertainment, artisan demonstrations, live music, incredible cinnamon bread, and beautiful seasonal festivals throughout the year.

If you’re traveling with kids, this will easily become one of the highlights of your vacation.

I’ve wanted to visit Dollywood the last few times we’ve stayed in the Pigeon Forge area, but it just hasn’t worked out. One of these Pigeon Forge visits I will get myself there.

Ride an Alpine Coaster

One thing Pigeon Forge does incredibly well?

Mountain coasters.

You’ll control your own speed as you race down winding mountain tracks through the forest.

These are fun for both adults and older kids. One I don’t recommend is the Racing Coaster. It’s expensive (more so than the others) and boring. It’s supposed to be like two carts are racing, but it’s not.

Explore Great Smoky Mountains National Park

One of the biggest reasons people visit Pigeon Forge is because it’s the gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Don’t miss:

If hiking isn’t your thing, simply driving through the park is worth it. However, if you are driving thru any of these, get on the road early. We got stuck going thru Cades Cove and were in a stream of traffic that stopped to see a bear that was about a half mile away. Crazy!! Thank goodness we were on the Harley and scooted around everyone.

Consider booking a guided tour if it’s your first visit.

Visit The Island in Pigeon Forge

If you’re looking for shopping, entertainment, and dining all in one place, head to The Island.

You’ll find:

Pigeon Forge is famous for its dinner theaters.

These are especially great for families because everyone stays entertained while enjoying dinner. We’ve seen the Dolly Parton’s Stampede and loved it. Also, we did the Pirates Voyage Dinner show, but we saw that in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Reserve tickets early—they often sell out during peak seasons.

Go Ziplining Through the Smokies

Looking for adventure?

Ziplining offers incredible mountain views while adding a little adrenaline to your vacation.

Many tours are beginner-friendly and suitable for older children.

Just a short drive away, in Gatlinburg, Anakeesta is one attraction I recommend to nearly everyone.

It’s especially beautiful after dark when the entire area lights up.

The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel is Perfect for couples.

Pigeon Forge might actually be the mini golf capital of Tennessee.

Titanic Museum Attraction

Walk through interactive exhibits, touch a real iceberg, and learn the stories of Titanic passengers. This is one of Pigeon Forge’s most popular indoor attractions for families.

We went to the one in Branson, Missouri, but I think they are the same thing. Super cool to see and so much to learn about while touring the museum.

WonderWorks

Known as the “upside-down house,” WonderWorks combines science exhibits, laser tag, ropes courses, and hands-on fun that keeps kids entertained for hours.

We also did this attraction when we were in either Branson Missouri, or Wisconsin Dells Wisconsin, I can’t remember. I do remember it being unique and lots to look at.

Hollywood Wax Museum

Take fun photos with incredibly lifelike celebrities and enjoy two additional attractions often bundled with admission.

Many tourist towns have a Hollywood Wax Museum. We went thru one when in Branson, and almost did the one in Pigeon Forge but just ran out of time.

Beyond the Lens!

Perfect for teens and adults, this interactive attraction combines technology, virtual reality, games, and photo opportunities.

Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud Adventure Park

Watch professional lumberjack competitions before trying climbing walls, ropes courses, and axe throwing yourself.

If you are a fan of Paula Deen and Lumberjacks, this Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud Adventure Park is a must do attraction.

Outdoor Gravity Park

Ever wanted to roll down a hill inside a giant inflatable ball? This is one of the only zorbing parks in the United States.

Head on over to the Outdoor Gravity Park for an afternoon of fun.

Alcatraz East Crime Museum

A fascinating museum featuring crime history, forensic science exhibits, law enforcement artifacts, and interactive displays. Older kids and adults tend to love this one.

We did visit the Alcatraz East Crime Museum on our last trip to Pigeon Forge and I loved it. I’m a crime buff so seeing all the facts and pictures and learning all about the history of things is right up my ally. I even shared about it on Instagram.

Go-Kart Racing

Ride the Fun Time Trolley

One of the easiest and most affordable ways to explore town without worrying about parking. It’s a great option during busy seasons. Hop on the Fun Time Trolly for a tour around town.

Visit Parrot Mountain and Gardens

One of my favorite things in Pigeon Forge is the Parrot Mountain & Gardens. Situated literally on top of a mountain, and filled with exotic birds from all over the place.

You will wander along the trail and see parrots sitting on perches, in cages, and even get to hold parrots in the parrot play yard. Also, you can see the babies in the nursery, hold and play with them as well.

I’m a huge exotic bird lover, so this place is a must visit for me. I’ve been there 2 times and will go again when back in Pigeon Forge.

Explore the Old Mill Square

Even if you aren’t eating at The Old Mill Restaurant, the surrounding area is worth exploring. Browse specialty shops selling homemade candy, pottery, jams, kitchen goods, and local crafts.

Catch a Live Comedy or Music Show

Pigeon Forge offers plenty of live entertainment beyond dinner theaters. Depending on when you visit, you’ll find country music performances, comedy acts, and family-friendly variety shows throughout town.

Take a Scenic Drive Through Wears Valley

Just minutes from Pigeon Forge, Wears Valley offers a quieter side of the Smokies with beautiful mountain views, local shops, scenic overlooks, and easy access to less-crowded entrances to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This is actually where the RV park is located that we love to stay in. We aren’t much for crowds so don’t want to stay right in Pigeon Forge. We stay at Honeysuckle Meadows RV Park.
