Highway 61 has some of the most beautiful sights to see in Minnesota, including the Silver Creek Cliff Tunnel that is beautiful to look at, neat to drive thru and has amazing views from the bicycle trail.
The Silver Creek Cliff is just one of two tunnels up the North Shore. Lafayette Bluff is the other tunnel and looks very much the same. If you are traveling up the North Shore north of Two Harbors you will be driving thru them both.
A Day on the Bike
All geared up and headed out for a day on the Harley to enjoy the nice weather and some alone time while listening to the sound of the pipes and the open road. This is something we love to do and try to do it as often as we can as summer is just to short here in Minnesota.
A nice road trip up the North Shore was what was decided upon and even though we both drive thru this tunnel way to often, viewing it from a tourists point is something we don’t do. This happens to be the first time I ever took pictures of the tunnel.
Highway 61 Minnesota
Highway 61 in Minnesota is one that is highly traveled all year long. Mostly in the spring, summer and fall. The views are spectacular, and there is so much to do and see. Here hubby is standing at an overlook with the views of Lake Superior in the background.
Lake Superior is one of the 5 great lakes and holds many stories. Amazon sells some great books written about Lake Superior. Like, The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. If you like reading stories you have to check out all the books about Lake Superior.
The Beautiful Views
The huge rock formation on the side of the road you see as you are entering the tunnel is beautiful. Think it looks huge here, you should see it in person. Breathtaking is an understatement. But, living here, we just don’t always take time to really look and admire and enjoy.
Standing on the bicycle path you can have many views. The lake view, the tunnel view and the view of the massive rock formation that the tunnel is going thru. I remember when this tunnel was actually put here. This road used to be a scary one to drive, pre-tunnel.

What Else Is Up the North Shore
Visitors from all over come to the North Shore for many reasons. The beautiful views all year round, the biking trails, the waterfalls, the unique shops and restaurants, the ongoing events in the towns along the way and more. So much to see and do along the North Shore of Minnesota.
People stop and check out the Split Rock Lighthouse which is a total must see for all.
If you like waterfalls there are many. Gooseberry Falls, Cascade Falls, High Falls, Beaver Falls, Cross River Falls, Temperance Falls, and so many more. It’s a full weekend of hiking and sight seeing if you are up for it.
If you keep driving you will eventually end up in Canada, but before that you can stop in Lutsen and check out the Alpine Slide or the Gondola ride for some amazing views as well. No matter what you do along the North Shore, you will not be bored.
